Caravan insurance terminology cover definitions

A list of cover definitions of terminology frequently used by underwriters and insuirers. You should always read the policy document for an exact definition of terminology used in the caravan insurance policy you purchase

DEFINITIONS

Type of Insurance and Cover .
You will be covered for only those sections you request.
The maximum amount covered is the value shown within your policy wording or on the policy schedule. Please read caravan insurance cover types

Duration
Policies are annually renewable. The period of insurance will be shown on your schedule.

Loss or Damage to the Caravan and Equipment
This usually ncludes fixtures, fittings, furnishings, utensils, bedding and accessories, awnings and toilet tents.

Loss or Damage to Contents
This optional Cover applies to contents which belong to you whilst they are in your caravan.
This usually excludes: money, cheques, stamps or stamp collections, credit and cheque cards, securities for money, deeds, bonds, tickets, bills of exchange, promissory notes, certificates, manuscripts and documents of any kind, pedal cycles or contact lenses, mobile or portable phones or pagers, computers, computer equipment and computer games. Your standard household insurance will usually cover personal possessions away from the home. There is usually a single item limit.

Replacement as New
Following total loss of or destruction beyond economic repair of the caravan, subject to the loss or damage occurring within 3 years from purchase new and the sum insured representing the present day purchase price of the caravan.

Liability to the Public
An Indemnity in respect of injury to third parties usually up to £2Million as a base limit but extendable on this website to £5million for a small extra premium.

Loss of Use
Usualy includes cover for alternative accommodation if the caravan is rendered uninhabitable following a claim under this policy.

Continental Use
This over operates for temporary visits to Europe usually for a total of 30 days during the period of insurance. This can be extended if you notify the Insurer and pay the appropriate premium.

Excess
An amount the policy does not cover in the event of of any loss or damage.

Structures
Usually means Caravans, Chalets, Mobile Homes or Beach Bungalows used for leisure, recreational or purposes only, and Park Homes occupied as a permanent residence. A structure will usually include all interior and exterior nondetachable fixtures, fittings and furnishings, plus ancillary domestic outbuildings, chests, steps, landscaping, boundary fences and the like.

Public Liability.
Underwriters will usually indemnify the policyholder against all sums which may become legally liable to pay in respect of claims made by any person, visitor or guest excluding members of the policyholders family arising out of the ownership of the Static
Caravan, Chalet or Mobile Home for:
Bodily injury fatal or nonfatal.
Illness including claims arising out of or caused by vermin food poisoning and foreign or deleterious matter in food or drink.
Loss or damage to property belonging to or in the care custody or control of any visitor or guest.
Occurring, during the period of insurance and caused in connection with the policyholder premises anywhere in the United
Kingdom.
